Department of Commerce

Our Department

The Commerce Department of ARSD College was founded in 1964 with just two teachers, Mr. R.K. Grover and Mr. A.K. Mittal. The first B. Com (P) class began in the 1970s, when only ARSD College and Hans Raj College offered the course at the University of Delhi. ARSD College was also the first college in the University of Delhi to establish a Vocational Guidance and Training Scheme (now known as the Placement Cell) in 1975 under The Twenty Point Programme of then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The Commerce Department strives for excellence and is considered one of the best institutions in commerce, as reflected in recent NIRF rankings. The department provides courses such as B. Com, B. Com (Hons), and M. Com, that are popular both in India and internationally. The Commerce Association and Seminar, a prominent society in the department, offers numerous opportunities to foster creativity and intellectual growth among students by organizing talks, discussions, competitions, seminars, and conferences throughout the year. The courses provide a comprehensive understanding of finance, banking, law, insurance, e-commerce, accounting, taxation, management, international business, statistics, and other vital areas relevant to today’s business landscape. The department blends accessibility with excellence, offering in-depth teaching methods that help students develop the insights, ambitions, and skills needed to formulate effective business strategies. The programs are designed to train and inspire responsible business leaders who drive innovation and change. The department takes pride in delivering high-quality commerce and business education that enhances academic knowledge, supports business success, and fosters student development. The faculty members are accomplished researchers in their fields, bringing new perspectives and extensive networks. The department is an excellent starting point for those pursuing professional qualifications such as C.A., I.C.W.A./A.C.C.A., and C.S., as well as aspiring entrepreneurs.
