Although History has the distinction of being one of the first courses to start in this College (1959), it was initially offered only as part of the B.A. Pass Course. However, in the wake of growing demand for this discipline, in 1969, it was introduced as an Honours course. Ever since, by virtue of a stellar faculty’s endeavour and the matching enthusiasm of its students, this Department has emerged as one of the best undergraduate history departments of this University.
Among the chief aims of this department is inculcation of a long-term historical perspective in its students and prepare them for a wider role in the society. To that end, we try to further enrich the classroom experience by regularly organising talks [by eminent scholars] and workshops and arranging [project-based] study visits to the places of historical importance. Our endeavour is not only to promote academic excellence, but also to impart the necessary skills to enhance employability, towards which a variety of skill enhancement courses have been introduced.Recently introduced Value Added Courses (under the UGCF Scheme of the NEP) are the latest attraction.
