 Orientation 2019-20

The orientation programme for the year was held on 6 August,2019. It was well attended by a large number of students from all three years of graduation spanning across all courses.During the orientation ,the members explained as to how the society functions, where they stand in the debating circuit ,what have been their achievements, why a student should join nimbus, and how the auditions would take place.The members even exhibited their talent by doing an extempore format of debating right there and then, by topics given by the members of the audience.

Overall, it was a very enriching presentation and there was a lot to be learned.

 Auditions 2019-20

The auditions for the year 2019-2020 were held on 8 August, 2019. The society saw massive participation from the students and rooms were filled very quickly. There were 2-3 panels so as to avoid chaos and to complete the auditions on time. This worked in favour of the participants as well since their waiting time was reduced drastically.The audition comprised of a conventional debate, where participants were given a choice of four topics, of which they had to choose one and had to speak either in favour or against the motion. There were also interjections by the panel so as to ensure concept clarity and presence of mind of the participants.All procedures went on smoothly and hassle free.

Youth Conclave

ARSD Youth Conclave has been made an annual event by the college governing body. The Youth Conclave is a simulation of various committees of the United Nations where delegates get to debate upon crucial global issues. With each passing year ,we are bound to touch new heights and this being the fourth edition ,we are constantly working hard to make it bigger and better.

The conference simulated the following six committees:

  1. United Nations Human Right Council
  2. All India Political Parties Meet
  3. National Development Council
  4. United Nations Security Council
  5. Economic and Social Council
  6. International Press

The society, being true to its word of growing bigger and better every year, has introduced a new format this year - The International Press, which will cover and report  the entire conference.The three previous editions have created a legacy for the society - both within the college and within the debating circuit. It will be our constant endeavour to make every Youth Conclave a grand success.With the Fourth Edition of the ARSD Youth Conclave on October 18-19, 2019 we commenced the conference with the same ardour calling in the respected Chief guest Mr. Siddharth Varadarajan, Guest of Honour Mr. Rahul Dev and the Principal of the college, Dr. Gyantosh Kumar Jha for the opening ceremony.The conference witnessed a great debate where each delegate was assigned a portfolio and a committee with a particular agenda to be debated upon beforehand. Delegates came with in-depth research on the intriguing topics layered with their diplomatic skills and confidence, defending their stance. The whole procedure provided vital insights to the delegates in the working of World Politics.

 

 Seminar on Why to pursue MBA

The society also aims at organizing seminars,workshops and intra/inter-college debate competitions so that students gain exposure and are able to widen their horizon.Nimbus, The Debating Society of ARSD College (University of Delhi) organised a seminar on "Career Counselling - Why to pursue MBA" on 9 September, 2019.The seminar was conducted by Mrs.Gopika Kumar, who is currently working as an Assistant Professor at Jagannath International Management School.The seminar was a great learning experience. It started off by ma'am giving an overall outlook of why one should pursue MBA, what to look for in colleges that offer MBA, what criteria should one consider while comparing B-schools and how to go on about the whole process.

She also conducted various interactive activities to make the comprehension of the topics easier and to make the seminar a two way process. Students filled the room in huge numbers and ma'am was kind enough to address the doubts of the students.Overall, the seminar was a huge success and we thank ma'am for gracing us with her presence.

Inter College Bilingual Conventional Debate Competition

Nimbus- The English Debating Society Of Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, on the occasion of Vigilance Awareness Week 2019, organised an Inter College bilingual conventional debate competition on the topic "Integrity: A way of life" on the 1st of November, 2019.It was an immense honour to have the event graced by the presence of Dr. Gyantosh Kumar Jha, the Honourable Principal of the college. He enlightened the participants with his words of wisdom about the importance of integrity and the role it holds in every person's life.The debate commenced under the jury of Dr. Shubha Dwivedi, Assistant Professor from the English Department, Dr. Apra Sinha, Assistant Professor from the Economics Department and Dr. Indrajit Jha, Assistant Professor from the Department of Political Science.The total turnout was close to 50 participants representing various colleges of Delhi University and other eminent institutions all around Delhi and they deliberated their stance for and against the topic. Each participant spoke for a duration of 3 minutes, followed by interjections. The event progressed very smoothly as the interjections led to informative discussions and helped bring diverse opinions to the floor.

The event was closed with heart warming speeches by all the jury members who appreciated the participants on their enthusiasm and active responses throughout the event. Overall, the event was extremely productive and proved to be a great learning experience for the organizing committee as well as the participants.
